Great Gear with Heart and Soul

I was finally able to take my new Vedavoo packs out for a test drive and I have to say they do not disappoint. The Spinner Daypack is the most comfortable pack I own hands down. The shoulder strap design is genius allowing you to slide the straps closer to the center of your chest allowing total range of motion of your arms without the restriction which makes it very easy to fish with. And don't worry, it has a laptop sleeve too.
The Hip Pack is perfect for this time of year because all I carry is my bead box and another small fly box with a few go-to streamers and chunks of flesh. The Hip Pack holds everything nicely.

Another thing I do have to say is that the gear from Vedavoo has heart and soul. Every piece is made by owner Scott Hunter on a single sewing machine. I couldn't help but to feel "special" to own this gear that is Made in the USA (proudly displayed). I love that this quality, functional gear was made by a single man in a shop with all American made materials.

How tough are you?

So how tough are you? Keith is a 16 year old lobster fisherman from Maine who I went fishing with that has hands so tough that he can stick hooks in his fingertips. Thats pretty tough.

Spring '12

Even though we are behind a bit this year there has been some fish being caught. It still gets down in the mid to low 30's at night so the rivers have not completely blown out yet.

Vedavoo

Gear for the road less traveled. Vedavoo is a small business that is dedicated to creating innovative gear for the outdoor enthusiast that seeks simplicity. Over the years of fishing and guiding I have realized that simplicity make for a much more enjoyable day on the water. I don't like to wear big vests or lanyards with all kinds of junk hanging off. The 7-10 main flies that I use in a couple of boxes along with tippet and splitshot and that about does it for me on the river for a day. I feel that having all of that gear can be a distraction from the real experience. The gear that Scott Hunter at Vedavoo is coming out with is simple, functional and American Made so check it out.

2012

Well the rivers are open and fish are (supposedly) being caught. There are some reports of people catching fish in the valley already but I have yet to get on the water being that I am headed back from going to school in Colorado. I will be wetting a line in the next day or two so check back for some possible pics.

Side Channels

I love exploring new water, especially on my home creeks. The challenge and the anticipation of small side channels are a great way to spend a day.

Crested Butte

I had the great opportunity to spend the weekend in Crested Butte, CO with my girlfriend about a week ago and it was great!

Crested Butte is officially my favorite place in Colorado. Although there was a little lack of snow when we arrived on friday night when we woke the next morning we had about 5 inches of pow to cut into on the slopes and it continued to snow the entire day.

That evening we headed to downtown Crested Butte to grab a burger and a beer and see the sites. I like downtown Crested Butte because it has a great old town feel and not a snobby, rich feel like some other ski towns. Everyone we spoke with was very laid-back and easy to talk to.

We planed to head to the Taylor River on Sunday on our way home to wet a line for a couple hours so we stopped in to Dragonfly Anglers fly shop to get some last minute info from a local. We were able to speak with Rod, the shop owner and guide for over 25 years in the area. Rod was great to talk to and was very honest about the Taylor. I hope to see him up in Alaska soon.

The trip was great, the snow was good, and it was nice to see some fish and make a few casts (with no hook ups). We defiantly want to get back there sooner than later.
